How to use the new Settle Remainder feature in D365FO version 8.1.3

March 28, 2019 Jeff Katz

Another great enhancement Microsoft released with Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations version 8.1.3 is to the AP and AR settlement functionality—Settle remainder. This update means you now have the ability to settle the remaining amount to a ledger account or another customer or vendor, whether you are settling amounts in a journal or just settling open transactions. This article walks you through the process.

To enable and use Settle Remainder, follow these steps.

  1. To enable and set defaults in AP & AR
    1. Path: Accounts Receivable > Setup > Parameters > Settlement Tab and/or Accounts Payable > Setup > Parameters > Settlement Tab
    2. Under the new fast tab, Settle remainder
      1. Set enable to Yes
      2. Assign default reason code
      3. Assign default ledger account
      4. Assign default journal name

  1. Settle remainder from a payment journal
    1. Create a new payment journal.
    2. Settle invoices as you normally would.
    3. To settle remainder, click on Settle remainder button.

  1. A dialog box will open with default entries in amount, ledger account, reason code and date.
  2. You may edit the settlement account or reason code.
  3. If you want to move the balance to another customer, choose customer to settle remainder against.
  4. Click Settle remainder, a new settlement journal transaction will be added to the payment journal.

  1. Settle remainder when settling open transactions
    1. The settle process is the same; however, this option allows you to post without a journal or edit in a payment journal before posting.
    2. Mark transactions to settle.
    3. To settle remainder, click on Settle remainder button.

  1. When the dialog box opens, you have an additional option to edit in journal.
  2. If you want to post without editing in journal, click settle remainder, journal will post automatically.
