Upgrade Your Business's Operations This New Year

January 5, 2017 Amanda Sherry

Two-thousand and seventeen is in full force, and it’s time to organize your New Year's resolutions for 2017. With that being said, what promises are you going to hold yourself to? From something simple like daily gestures of kindness to something more involved like revamping your company’s processes, setting goals is a great way to effect change in yourself and others around you.

Giving back to others is the best gift, and Western Computer would like to discuss some IT New Year’s Resolutions that will positively impact clients, colleagues, and partners.

Here are some things to add to your company’s resolution list this January:

Microsoft Dynamics NAV Upgrades - Many companies are still using Dynamics software from before 2010. While that still may be better than nothing, nothing is better than the latest greatest technology that Microsoft is offering for their Enterprise clients.

We offer multiple upgrades that can improve your business’s day-to-day operations such as:

Complete (As-Is) Upgrade - The Complete Upgrade encompasses all supported custom codes and objects and brings them forward into the NAV system.  Your business gets all of your current NAV functionality in the latest version.  Also, there are application changes such as Forms being converted to Pages for the RTC, web client and universal app.   Complete upgrades are most popular with NAV users that are already using the RoleTailored Client.

WC Fresh Start Upgrade - This upgrade is quicker and less involved for the developers, but it will take more time for the users to review customizations and decide which data and tables should be moved to the new platform. Note - No code, reports, forms, or data ports are upgraded during a WC Fresh Start Upgrade (this simply upgrades data and tables). This approach is especially popular for users on the older “classic” versions of NAV.  They can leave obsolete customizations behind but still bring forward all of their detailed historical data. Once the data is upgraded, then Western Computer consultants will work with your team to train them on the new version and decide best how to implement new functionality for your organization.

New Start Upgrade - The New Start Upgrade starts with a blank NAV database. From there, we import selected data, including limited history, which eliminates existing custom code and data. With this upgrade, old and corrupt data is left behind and old customizations can be eliminated through business process improvement or rewritten using NAV’s events and extensions model

Information that can be migrated from your old NAV system include:

  • All master records such as customers, vendors, items and GL Accounts
  • Common NAV configuration tables like posting groups, number series, dimensions, and unit of measure
  • Open transactions including purchase orders, open AP, historical sales data and other invoices.
