The Dynamics 365 for Operations Mobile App - 5 Steps to Building the Right Strategy

Dynamics 365 Goes Mobile

Dynamics CRM has been accessible via mobile apps for some time, but the accessibility of ERP through mobile apps has understandably been a bit slower. Now, Dynamics 365 for Operations combines these applications for a full-service solution. With the use of the mobile workspace functionality, you can design mobile apps that will give your team access to the data they need via smartphones and tablets.

However, before putting your company’s valuable data out there, it is necessary to have an intelligent strategy in place. You’ll want to be sure that workflows are directed to the right team members and that they are easy to use.

Here are 5 points to consider for a successful mobile strategy:

  • Identify which jobs will benefit from mobile capabilities.
  • Select the business processes where mobile will best extend your system.
  • Define what other applications need to integrate with Dynamics 365 in order to be mobile.
  • Personalize workflows on mobile users see only the data they need.
  • Support all your company’s mobile platforms.

Which jobs will benefit from mobile capabilities? Consider your out-of-office sales team, service technicians in the field, warehouse workers on the shop floor, executives in remote locations.

Which processes will benefit from mobile capabilities? Think about sales pipelines, expense reporting, entry of time and materials and service support tickets. And what about supplying up-to-the-minute Power BI to business executives? Examine your overall business flow and see if there are areas that slow down when certain team members are out of the office. That’s where mobile will be of real value.

Which other applications need to be mobile? Tools like Power BI, Power Apps, and Flow support the creation of workflows outside and inside of Dynamics 365. It’s critical that these apps function properly on users’ mobile devices. You’ll need to ensure that any hardware is compatible with both the app and the mobile device being used.

How can you support your mobile network of users? It’s important that users have easy access to the data they need without the confusion and distraction of things they don’t. Designing personalized workflows for your mobile workers will help them master the technology and make good use of it. Test workflows on each mobile device for efficiency and ease of use.
